Happy Six Months, Mason!

It seems Spring has finally sprung. We survived a long, very cold and snowy winter with a preschooler and a newborn. Whoo-hoo!

The blog posting has waned lately, mostly due to our exhaustion. After baths and bedtime, I typically choose 20 minutes of conversation or mindless TV over blogging -- so sue me (smile).

But since Mason turned six months old last week, a retrospective is in order. So, so many things have happened to both Mason and Maddie in the last six months.

*Maddie lost her fingernail. The whole thing. After a friend at daycare slammed her finger in a play fridge door it turned black and finally(!) fell off. I have never lost a fingernail, so this seemed a big deal to me. LOL.

*Maddie had her first dentist appointment and was a total pro. We were so proud of her!

*Maddie built her first snowman with some help from Noah, Robin and me. The great thing about having kids is getting to be a kid once again. Love it!

*Maddie and I tried to make baby food for Mason. We had a rough start but plan to try again soon. For now, he is really enjoying humongous jars of Earth's Best...

*Maddie and Grandmama planted sunflowers. We are watching them grow and think they are ready to move outside.

*Mason is overdue for his six month appointment, but is on track for 20 pounds! He almost skipped cereal completely and went straight to pureed food. He loves sweet potatoes, just like Maddie did. Not so much a fan of the tart fruits, though. But learned to eat in about one day -- seriously this kid is a fast learner.

*Maddie is obsessed with The Little Mermaid. And anything else princess-like. Although I was doing my best to discourage this, she loves dress up so I bought her a wand and some silver mary jane shoes that she calls "my princess shoes."

*Mason is my little rodeo cowboy. Whether he's eating or drinking a bottle, he always has one hand waving around ready for action. He is very chill but likes to keep something in his hands at all times, even if it's just one or two or three fingers!

*Mason is cutting his first one or two teeth. We noticed something white below the gums a few weeks ago, but now we're positive he has some teeth coming in. He is a little more whiny than usual, but nothing out of the ordinary for new teeth.

*He is cooing and laughing out loud all the time now. Just like the rest of us, Mason is super ticklish. Should be a blast when he gets older.

*He rolls from front to back and back to front and has done this for a while. We are working on sitting up, but he hasn't shown much interest yet. Maybe we should put a TV in front of him since he loves to look at the colors and motion, especially with Big Sis Maddie.

*He is super strong and grabs dinner plates and food off of them if you are not watching his little spastic fingers every minute. When he began doing this, we decided he wanted in on the food deal and began feeding him baby food. Here he is destroying an entire magazine. How fun, he says!

*Mason loves his jumping seat and laughs while he jumps! We all (Maddie included) call him our little jumping bean.

*Finally, Maddie has totally mastered her tricycle. Today, she did a three-point turn while riding. She pedals fast and furious, insisting to go to the end of our subdivision road, which is a ways, trust me. We can't believe how quickly she's picked it up. She got a Sesame Street helmet and Daddy caved and bought a Barbie bell also. Let the good times roll!

*Maddie has started skipping some naps at school. We only know this because she keels over while watching Dora at 6:30 p.m.

A very late update but some fun pictures

Frank here tonight...Janet is working.

Alright, so we had a few pictures and video mostly sent from my new fancy cell phone toy, so it's about time for some real writing. Since it's been a while here are some events from the last couple of weeks starting with the big chocolate extravaganza: VALENTINES DAY!
Mason kind of got the short end of it since he still can't eat much more than sweet potatoes. Maddie on the other hand misses no opportunity to capitalize on treats. Luckily not everything finds its way into her mouth (and yes please let's not comment on the outfit.....she's three and likes weird things):

Testing out whether Mason is as tasty as chocolate:

We are actually really thrilled that even after almost six months Maddie still loves her brother very much. She is always hugging him and kissing him because : "He's so funny!"

That weekend Grandmama and Grandaddy came up for a spontaneous visit. This was also the first weekend in a long time with some decent weather that invited some outdoor actiivies. We decided to head to Yates Mill park for a stroll. Maddie is getting all her accoutrements ready:

Daddy got to do all the work of carrying the little one around. Mason really did enjoy the trip though and was happily squawking and talking the entire time.

Some more pictures from the hike:

Yep I'm a friendly fella y'all!

Motherly love and Maddie thank God without sunglasses for a change:

Well, here they are again, sorry Mason!

We had a fun day at the park and it just felt really nice to catch a few sunrays and move around outside. Here just a few more shots from around the house. Mason loves tummy time and has now learned to roll over both ways. He still needs a bit of practice with sitting up by himself but he'll get there soon. He's still a joy to be around when he's awake which is not entirely true when it comes to sleeping. He had to learn to get by without a paci though (Daddy made him!!) and that has improved things quite a bit and he's really making progress putting himself to sleep without any help from us (Daddy is really excited!!!!)

Probably the two most common expressions around the house: Maddie with her big personality in the heat of the moment and Mason without a clue of what's happening to him.....so fun!!!
