Fairly random but cute stuff

So it has again been a very long time since we updated the blog. As a reward for holding out you'll get to see some fun pictures. By the way, if you have not already figured it out from the eloquent writing style: this is Daddy posting today. Mason is still the pickiest eater we have ever encountered. By and large he exists on a diet of lots of milk, tortilla chips, pasta, rice and the occasional chicken nugget. So we are very excited every time he actually tries something new. Maddie loves corn on the cob and Mason just had to follow big sister's example and take a bite as well. Unfortunately it only took the one bite for him to realize that corn was yet another thing he was NOT going to eat......sigh.

We got a great deal on some summer ballet classes for Maddie and she was super excited. She really loves dancing and of course all the outfits that go with it. Here's the happy ballerina.

Mason loves playing with his train and he loves taking off his clothes and running around semi-naked (if we're lucky) or completely au naturel if we can't catch him in time. So what could be better than playing half naked with a train? Playing half naked with a train with only one sock on!!!!

A few weeks ago we were invited to Noah's 4th birthday party. Robin's and Waylon's new neighborhood has a nice pool and both kids really enjoyed playing in the water. Maddie did not even want to come out for cupcakes. Mason was a bit more hesitant but he's definitely getting more excited about water and ended up having a good time as well.

More waterplay at Salem's house this time sprinkler fun. You can also see that Mason despite his lousy diet is not lacking a manly belly.

The kids have discovered a new favorite TV show, "Dinosaur train", so here it is, our own dino train. They had tons of fun trying to fit all five dinos onto Mason's little train.

Random Mason silliness. That boy is up for anything silly.

Making progress with proper eating etiquette. He does a great job eating his cereal with a spoon. He also mostly uses his left hand for eating. Hmmmm are we raising a southpaw? Will have to investigate left handed banjos and fiddles soon.

Did I mention that the boy loves to take his clothes off?

Ok switching gears: we really have enjoyed the produce from our garden this year even though not everything produced as well as we would have liked. We are definitely learning what works and what doesn't from year to year. Here I'm brewing a batch of jalapeno peach jelly. The jalapenos are homegrown, the peaches are from the store though.

Maddie and Mason practicing their dance moves. It is really nice to see that they are starting to play with each other more, now that Mason is able to do a lot more stuff. And they truly love each other.

But not everything is perfect. We see this Maddie face a lot lately. She gets upset very easily and has absolutelyi no problem communicating that to us......should be awesome when she turns 13.

Mason on his bouncy horse, which Maddie keeps insisting is not a horse but a donkey. Notice the absence of clothes.

Paint day! Both kids love to paint. Maddie still thinks she is going to be a "drawer" once she is grown up. The conversation went something like this: " I don't want to be a firegirl. Firegirls have to wear heavy coats and get all sweaty. I want to be a drawer. Drawers can wear sleek clothes." ........WTH?

Mason has also really gotten into water colors and asks to paint a lot even before heading out to daycare in the mornings. He seems to prefer earthy colors over Maddie's choices of pink or generally colorful.

More bounty from the garden, our first carrots. They turned out pretty small but the kids were excited. Maddie wanted to eat some right away while Mason was happy to just carry them around. He did take a bite out of a tomato, of course did not like it as expected. Maddie on the other hand is super excited about the tomaotes and will eat five or six straight from the plant every time we are outside.

Mason is making progress with his talking. His vocabulary is actually quite impressive and he's really starting to put words together in short phrases. This morning he dropped his milk cup and exclaimed excitedly: "I dropped it!". Yes you did boy and kudos on the grammar!
